​How it started

Beginning with founder Dr. Dian Fossey, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International has more than 40 years’ history of gorilla protection and conservation. They were established in 1978 as the Digit Fund, with the purpose of preserving and protecting the world's last mountain gorillas. Their focus has never wavered, but they have expanded to address other regional challenges to gorilla protection.
